College Prep courses are offered and encouraged for high school students. Dual credit courses are offered through Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas and are transferable to most major universities. Clubs and organizations include the National Honor Society, Student Council, Christian Club, Yearbook Staff, Key Club, PSAT Club, Interact Club, Drama Club, Fire Marshall's, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletics. High school students have the opportunity to compete with students from other high schools in a number of events including the Academic Betterment Competition, Math-Science Competition, Quiz Bowl, Science Fair and the local Lyric contests. Students who excel in academics and sports are recognized with the Scholar-Athlete award. The seniors are selected each year as Wendy's Heisman nominees and go on to compete as semi-state and state finalist. The average ACT score of DeSoto students is 22. A total of 95 percent of DeSoto graduates enter college. Legacy seniors and honor graduates are announced every year at Baccalaureate. At graduation this year, $998,000.00 worth of scholarships were announced. Mrs. Lyn Toney serves as the Dean of Students for DeSoto High School, grades 9-12.
